Altoona Family Physicians Inpatient Medicine Service - 3 months
  • One to two senior residents and three Interns
  • Typically coordinate care for three to six patients on service with progressive responsibility
  • Daily teaching and interdisciplinary rounds
  • Run codes and rapid responses
  • Perform admissions
Community Family Medicine -  1 month
  • Work closely with lab technician to obtain CLIA certification
  • Accompany home nursing on home visits
  • Explore community resources
  • See six to eight patients per half-day in outpatient clinic
Emergency Medicine -  1 month
  • Work with the attendings in the ED for triage and disposition of patients
  • Level II Trauma Center, stroke center, and cardiac center
  • Work a variety of shifts
Gynecology -  2 weeks
  • Work with our community gynecologists
  • Staff the Women’s Health and Wellness Center
  • Outpatient and surgical experience
Night Float - 6 weeks
  • Cover inpatient medicine service, OB, pediatrics overnight
  • Run codes and rapid responses
  • Progressive responsibility throughout the year
  • One to two senior residents always on call with you
Obstetrics -  2 months
  • Divided into alternating shifts of inpatient Labor and Delivery and outpatient responsibilities at the Pregnancy Care Center and Pregnancy Recovery Center
  • First assist on cesarean deliveries
  • AFP delivers 600 to 700 babies per year
Pediatrics - 2 months
  • One senior resident and one to two interns
  • Typically coordinate care for 10 to 14 pediatric patients on service
  • Admit all pediatric patients
  • See pediatric patients in outpatient clinics and attend pediatric cardiology clinic
  • Daily Teaching from local pediatricians
  • Perform newborn exams
  • Perform circumcisions
Surgery - 1 month
  • Work one on one with local surgeons
  • First assist on surgeries
  • Work with anesthesia and trauma to practice intubation and other procedures
