Recreation

The Central Pennsylvania area is a great place to live and play.  In addition to excellent shopping and dining, we have a number of other outstanding recreation opportunities.

The Altoona area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.  The area has over 25 parks, highlighted by several Pennsylvania state parks and nearby Lake Raystown, that offer tremendous hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities.  Blue Knob is renowned for its skiing, and ski trips are frequently organized by the residents and faculty.

The Altoona Curve is the Pittsburgh Pirates AA affiliate and is quite popular. The ballpark is modeled after Camden Yards, and AFP has free tickets to every game. Altoona also has two amusement parks, Lakemont Park and Delgrosso’s Amusement Park, and the residency has discounted tickets.

Artistic and cultural interests can be richly satisfied with the Altoona Symphony, State College Symphony, and the varied programs of the historic Mishler Theatre.  The regional and main Penn State campuses offer numerous events as well.
